Gary Mackay-Steven (born 31 August 1990 in Thurso)[1][2] is a Scottish professional footballer playing for Scottish Premier League club Dundee United.

Mackay-Steven began his career with Ross County before moving to English Premier League side Liverpool in 2007.[3] After spending two years at Anfield in the reserve and youth sides, Mackay-Steven was released, spending time training with Fulham before eventually returning to Scotland in January 2011 to join Airdrie United.[4] Mackay-Steven played in the remaining months of the 2010-11 season, scoring twice in the Scottish Cup before spending time with Dundee United on trial. In July 2011, Mackay-Steven made the move permanent, joining United on a two-year deal.[5] He made his début as a late substitute in the UEFA Europa League match against Śląsk Wrocław and made his league début three days later, again as a substitute. In late August, Mackay-Steven scored his first goal for the club (and his first career league goal), netting in the 3-3 draw at St Johnstone.[6]
